IPHS Postgraduate Student Prize 2010

The winner of the 2010 prize for best paper presented at the 2010 Istanbul conference is Frederick Omolo-Okalebo, for, "Two Cities in One: The Genesis, Planning and Transformation of Kampala City, 1903-1968."

Frederick is undertaking a PhD jointly at Makerere University in Kampala and the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm
.


IPHS Postgraduate Student Prize 2008


Ryan James
(PhD Candidate,
Anthropology, York University, Canada)

The winner of the 2008 prize for best paper presented at the 2008 Chicago conference is Ryan James, for, "'From "slum clearance" to "revitalization": planning, expertise, and moral regulation in Toronto's Regent Park."

The jury (Jenny Gregory, Vibha Arora, Fernando Perez) was of the opinion that: "The paper is an engaging yet sophisticated analysis focusing on an historical case study over time. Its strengths lie in its clear structure, the way in which theoretical and other studies are woven through the analysis, the sure handling and explication of historical material, the depth of analysis, and in the strength of the writing."
